The Notation
- After each episode, a number is given in square brackets [ ] to indicate that story's order in the Canon. This is because the order of the adaptations is anything but canonical.
- Please be aware that the "volume" titles do not match. For example, what may be a story that was published in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes is not necessarily an episode in the Memoirs series.
- If the episode's title was changed substantially from that of the original story, or included elements from a different story, the story's title is also included in square brackets.
- Actors other than Brett, Burke, and Hardwicke, are listed in credit order. Title (starring) credits are italicized.
- I have included links to the Internet movie database (US site) for some of the more prolific and familiar names. Any mistakes or gaps in the actor data should be sent to the database, not me.
- All of the "Read the Story" links go to Michael Sherman's lovely collection of the stories. During the summer, these links often do not work; and several of the stories, published in the 20's are still not in the public domain, and therefore are not available.
- All episode times are approximate and rounded to the nearest five seconds. Two-hour episodes were timed as if run together (i.e. I didn't count the end-credits of the first half and beginning credits of the second half). Most times were taken from PBS or Disney Channel airings (the Disney Channel tended to pull out the word "cocaine" whenever it appeared). Only one ("The Norwood Builder") was taken off A&E. A&E times are usually four to five minutes shorter than PBS: this is due to "time compression" (i.e. speeding up) and cuts.
