Why aren't there any pictures on your website?
Because when I wrote and asked, Granada said "No." Very emphatically. With lots of legal notices. Being a sneaky kind of person, I figured that linking to pictures that weren't on my site might be ok, but as most of those links are now broken, I just removed the pictures page from the site altogether.
Is it true there were two different Dr. Watsons? (aka) Why did David Burke leave the show?
Yes, there were two different actors playing Dr. Watson. The first, David Burke was replaced by Edward Hardwicke in Season 3. Burke left the show to work with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford. Because an RSC production generally moves from Stratford to London, a season for an actor there is roughly two years. Burke was unable to do both the show and the RSC job, and the RSC job had the added appeal of being able to work with his wife, Anna Calder-Marshall.
If you could choose anyone to play Sherlock Holmes, who would you choose?
Ok, maybe I just wish people would ask me this one. But my personal contender for Holmes is Patrick Malahide. I freely admit that this is a very shallow and superficial thing, but it suddenly struck me, watching his Roderick Alleyn in the Ngaio Marsh series that bore no resemblance to the books, how very Paget-illustration-like the man was. Not to mention, he's such a whacking great actor that when I looked him up in the IMDB, I suddenly realized he'd appeared in roughly half a dozen things I'd seen in very sizable roles, but I hadn't registered who he was because he'd been so thoroughly different in each role. The guy's a chameleon.
