- Peter Haining's The Television Sherlock Holmes, 3rd edition. 1994. ISBN 0-86369-793-3. Out of Print. Virgin Publishing (Thames Warf Studios, Rainville Road, London W6 9HA) can no longer help. However, an occasional copy pops up on E-bay or in the usual used book places.
Way-incredibly-cool. It's been updated to include a full episode list and a new foreword by Jeremy Brett. There's also stuff like a list of the stately homes that appear in the episodes, entries from the writers' bible, a comprehensive listing of Sherlock Holmes in television, and lots and lots of photos.
- Anglofile.
A single sheet (double-sided) newsletter for fans of things British. It gives schedules for Mystery! and Masterpiece Theatre, and was nice enough to let me use an old interview with Jeremy Brett. I like it. It's published monthly by The Goody Press, P.O. Box 33515, Decatur, GA 30033. Yearly subscription rates are $12 in the US, $15 in Canada and Mexico, and $18 everywhere else. Tell 'em you saw it here.
- Issue 13 (Winter 1994) of Scarlet Street, (ISSN 10588612) has a four-page article by David Stuart Davies about the filming of "The Three Gables". Also a nifty piece on Rathbone's Adventure of Sherlock Holmes.
- The complete facsimile edition of Sherlock Holmes by Mallard Press [1990. ISBN 0-792-45415-4].
This is where I got the Canonical order of the stories. It's got all the illustrations as well as a few ads from the original Strand publications of Doyle's stories.
- Britain's Royal National Theatre: the first 25 years. by Tim Goodwin. NT/Nick Hern Books. [1988 ISBN 1-85459-005-7].
Ok, I didn't use it but it's a fun way of tracing Brett's career with the National, as is the book, Olivier at Work which contains short essays on Olivier by Brett and Hardwicke, among others. [1989. ISBN 0-87830-096-1].
